Half shaved

Frizzy red head.

I don't know why I'm smiling either.

Hair has also been dark purple and bright green.

Blue and black braids - Pepi's in Camden, North London

Loved my hair like this. This was done at Pepi's in Camden. Blue and black braids.

It cost about £300 - 500. Don't remember now.

If I have that money again, it's Mark Glenn for a natural look.

Dry frizzy afro

The back is my natural, unrelaxed hair and proof of how afro and unmanageable it is. The front, longer bits are damaged beyond acceptability.

Impossible to brush.

Would rip it out with the hairbrush in clumps out of frustration.

When my hair is covered / relaxed people never believe how unmanageable it is so I want to draw attention to how stupid it is to tell me to just put gel in it and it would be fine. That's stupid advice, right?

Relaxed & Short

My relaxed hair, dyed a darker brown than my natural colour.

I liked this hairstyle at the time but looking back, it looks really stiff and there's something a bit dodgy or witchy about it but maybe that's just my face.

I am really bad with getting back to the salon for treatment and for oiling my hair so it eventually ends up like an extremely dry afro sponge that looks like it could fall apart.

First time I relaxed my hair back in secondary school I didn't tell the lady how much it burned like hot hell and when she asked I'd say it was fine. I thought if I said it burned, she would wash it away and it wouldn't relax my hair properly. My scalp was a bloody, itchy mess. But my hair was straight!

My friend Tony would say "don't scratch it, pat it with the palm of your hand like this *pat pat*!"

I also had never brushed straight hair before so in an early morning haze I dug the hairbrush right into my scalp and tore downwards. The pain. A hamster could have learned faster but it took me a while to break that pattern of pain.

Second here is my natural hair colour.

Last two: Black and most definitely witchy.

Mid-length straight brown weave

Bad : o (

Doesn't suit my face. Weird boofy top bit from where my real hair is.

I have also had a bad blonde weave from a different salon which thankfully there is no known photographic evidence of its existence. Needless to say I didn't go back to that salon and they wouldn't take me back if I paid them the way I freaked out at them. Police were called.

Purple cornrows

Purple cornrows.

This is when I had a full head of hair.

I like how tidy my hair is in cornrows, it doesn't stick up several inches in the air. It's low cost to get done. There's also no brushing or washing.

Bad points about this hairstyle is that I'm so white that people assume I have straight hair and that I'm trying to be black. Get a lot of scowls with this hair, "who does she think she is?"
